Mrs. Agnes Wright Ponds, age 93, died Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Glen Haven Health and Rehab in Northport, AL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Avenue North location. Visitation was Monday, October 15, 2018, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home, 2nd Avenue North location and will be 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Ethelsville, AL. Services will follow at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dale Clem officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Grove UMC cemetery. The daughter of the late Milford and Lockey Samford Wright, Mrs. Ponds was born December 30, 1924, in the Pine Grove Community, near Ethelsville, AL. She was the last surviving of seven Wright children. Mrs. Ponds was employed by the US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville, AL, as a clerk in the motion pictures division. She was a longtime member of Monte Sano United Methodist Church in Huntsville. Mrs. Ponds unconditionally loved the Monte Sano Mountain community in Huntsville, where she and Charles lived for 55 years. She also loved and cared dearly for her many close and extended family and friends. And Agnes made no doubt of her staunch support for the University of Alabama and all Crimson Tide sports. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers; three sisters; her infant son, Michael Derwood Ponds; and her husband, Charles Derwood “Charlie” Ponds. She is survived by her son and daughter- in-law, Ricky D. and Annette S. (Sissy) Ponds of Tuscaloosa, AL; her grandchildren, KaiCee Ponds Richardson, M.D. (Seth) and Charles Zachary Ponds (Lena); and her great-granddaughter, Eliza Ponds. The pallbearers will be Loyd Wright, Larry Wright, Setve Wright, Zachary Ponds, Seth Richardson and Herbert Blakeney.
