Charles Dickerson Mackie I was born in Oakland, California in 1876. This was the year of the country's centennial celebration, note the flag he is holding in the photo.

Charles' parents were returning from several years in the merchant trade business in Shanghai, China. They returned to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Charlie was raised.

Charles married Mary Ellen (Minnie) Quinn in 1895 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, quietly in the rectory of Sacred Heart Church, as he was not a Catholic at that time.

They made their home in Worcester, Massachusetts from about 1897 to 1916. After a short time in Cromwell, Connecticut, the Mackies finally settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Charles had his own florist shop there in the 1920s to the 1950's (his son Paul taking over).

They had six children: Gordon, Clarisse (Sr. Mary Beata), Mabel (married Rowen), Paul, baby James, and Anne (Nan) my mother (married Enright, then Gustin).
