Kate Mackie as a little tot traveled with her mother, Clara Davis Mackie, to Shanghai China where her father was a merchant. She lived in Oakland California also about 1876, then to Bridgeport. She and her sister, Clarissa (Cal) Mackie lived together all their lives. For a while they lived in New York City (circa 1910's). Kate was in charge of meals for one of the student houses of Columbia University. But they returned to Bridgeport and eventually lived with their widower brother, John H. Mackie II, and his daughter, Marion.
