"Johann (John) Herman Bauer, son of Hans and Mary Gebhardt Bauer was born on June 8 1902 at Gladstone and died on Aug 23 1986 at the Parkview Haven nursing home in Deshler at the age of 84 years. He was baptized on June 22 1902 by the Rev. G. Mieger at Trinity Lutheran Church near Gladstone and was confirmed at the same church on April 16 1916 by Rev. Zagel. On Aug 8 1923, he was united in marriage to Margaret Augusta Ida Schoen at Gladstone and to this union five children were born. He lived in the Gladstone and Gilead area for many years and was engaged in farming. In 1946, the family moved to Chester where he was employed as a truck driver. He later worked in construction in various areas including Orlando, Fla. He later worked as a service station attendant at Geneva. He spent his retirement years in Deshler and Fairbury. Since May of this year, he had been a resident at the Parkview Haven nursing home due to his failing health. Through the years he was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church near Gladstone, also St. John's Lutheran church of Chester and more recently the Grace Lutheran Church of Fairbury. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; one son, Dale; four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one son Melven and wife Laura; three daughters, Guila, Donna and Barbara, a daughter-in-law, Pauline; 15 grandchildren (Laverne, Duane, Eugene, Gaylon, Gerald, Johnny, Bryant, Theresa, Marie, Mathew, Anie, Marc, Ronald, Gary, and Michelle); one step-granddaughter (Cheryl); 14 great-grandchildren; several other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday Aug 27 at 10am at the Grace Lutheran Church of Fairbury, conducted by Pastor Gary Werling. Interment was made in St. Johns's Lutheran Cemetery at Chester. The organist was Mrs. Darrell Junker. Casket bearers were Kenneth Schoen, Darrell Fett, Wayne Bauer, Norbert Bauer, Ernest Pavlicek and George Harms.
