Miss Josephine C. Bauer, daughter of Hans Bauer and his wife Maria, nee Gebhard, was born Aug. 14th, 1894 near Gladstone, Jefferson County, Nebraska. When six days old, she was baptized in the name of the Triune God by the Rev. L. J. Cehrman. At the age of seventeen years she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. M. Zagel at Gladstone, Nebr.
In November, 1920, she moved to Chester with her parents. Being an invalid almost all her life, she lived with her mother until shortly before her end. She died Jan. 11, 1943 at the age of 48 years, 4 months and 28 days.
She leaves to mourn her death, her aged mother, one sister, Mrs. C. C. Frank of Chester, Nebraska, four brothers, William and Walter of Fairbury, Nebraska, Elmer of Oak, Nebr., and John of Gilead, Nebr. Her father and one brother preceded her in death.
Her mortal remains were laid to rest in St. John's Lutheran cemetery east of Chester, Nebr.
Her ppastor (sic), the Rev. O. W. Juengel, spoke comforting words at the funeral held at the Lutheran Church Jan. 14th, basing his sermon on Hebrews 13:14. "For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come."
