She was united in marriage to D. L. Skaggs, June 29, 1903. To this union, six children were born; four sons and two daughters, Avis Leona having gone to the home of the Soul and was waiting her mother's coming. Those left to mourn her going away are the following: a loving companion, the four sons, Eldon, Estus, Elroe, Elbert and one daughter Annis, a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Spencer, five sisters, Mrs. S.F. Hantz, Mrs. Alice Watts, Mrs. Lester Goff, Mrs. Bessie Kenton and Mrs. Frank Kerner, two brothers George and Jason O. Spencer. She was a loving mother and lived her life for her husband and children. The poet expresses very beautifully the kind of life she lived.
Last night, my darling as you slept,
I thought I heard you sigh,
And to your little crib I crept,
And watched a space nearby,
And I stopped and kissed your brow.
For O, I love you so.
You are to young to know how,
But some time you shall know.
Fold her, O, Father in thine arms,
And let her henceforth be.
A messenger of love between.
Our human hearts and Thee,
Still let her mild rebuking stand,
Between us and the wrong,
And her dear memory serve to make,
Our faith in goodness strong." - Oblong Oracle, Oblong, IL
