She was born December 20, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late William Crawford and Barbara Alice Mashburn Hawkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Riley, Jr.; four brothers, Virgil Hawkins, Glenn Hawkins, Wayne Hawkins and Howard Hawkins; three sisters, Mae Jenkins, Hazel Craig and Mildred Hawkins; and son, James Alan Riley.
Mrs. Riley had worked in retail as a sales clerk and attended Lakeview Baptist Church of Lenoir. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family was the joy of her life and she was a great cook for them—always baking the best desserts with homemade icing. She loved collecting bells and stuffed animals.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Riley and wife Denise of Pasadena, MD, Richard Riley and wife Barbara of Granite Falls, NC and David Riley of Glen Burnie, MD; two daughters, Paula Baker and husband David of Grasonville, MD and Pamela Riley of Port Richey, FL; one brother, Ray Hawkins and wife Doris of Lenoir, NC; one sister, Bonnie Coffey and husband Ron of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; 15 grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Daren Smart. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
