Caroline was born to R. and Ralph W. Barcroft. She died "after a lingering and painful illness, from a complication of disease with bilious and scarlet fever and terminating with dropsy. The case was a very remarkable one and the suffering of the child intense beyond that of ordinary victims of scarlet fever. This latter disease has prevailed in the neighborhood of Hornitos to considerable extent this summer."
