Served American Revolutionary War in Capt Samuel Clark Company, Newburgh, June 1778 with son Jacob

John Wiggins was born in Jamaica, NY , his Wiggins family had lived there 85 years at the time of his birth-since 1649. He was the son of Benjamin Wiggins II and Rachael, surname unknown, who moved from Jamaica, NY between 1750- 1759. His brother, Richard, Will in Ulster Co, 1850 and John married 1759 at Newburgh. 1765 Ben receiving a land grant in Newburgh, then part of Ulster Co. (now Orange Co), from the Indians, signed with blood, for 850 acres on file at Kings Co. courthouse.

John lived and married 1759 to Polly NICHOLS in Newburgh where they lived until about 1790. proof-his son, Jacob, War pension application 1833 lists that Jacob was living with his family in Newburgh when drafted 1777 and serving until 1779. In 1790,son, Jacob moved 100 miles north to Stillwater, Saratoga Co., NY prompting all to move.
History of Oneida County, New York : from 1700 to the present time by Cookinham, Henry J., 1843-; S.J. Clarke Publishing Company, Publication date 1912, page 50 regarding a Wiggins descendant, that the Wiggins family were wealthy owners of the village of Saratoga, NY.

1790 & 1800 Stillwater, NY was Postmaster there in 1796 (according to Sylvester's Hist. of Saratoga Co.).
1795 All but son George move to Westernville, Oneida Co: first to Westernville then to Rome, Oneida Co, NY, where sons, Jacob, moved in 1795 (according to Jacob's 1832 military pension app) and Anning moved. Will, attached, states he died in Rome, burial site must be with other family in Wright Settlement Cem. or Rome Cemetery.
