Clarence Edward Gilbar, 77, retired, formerly employed by the New England Box Co. here, died yesterday afternoon at Parkview Nursing Home, Brattleboro. He had been a patient there since July 11. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Covey Funeral Home with burial in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow night from 7 to 9. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that friends who desire donate to the Windham County Cancer Relief Fund in Mr. Gilbar's memory. Checks should be made payable to "Cancer Relief Fund" and sent to Guy C. Hawkins, treasurer, or money may be left at the local branch of the Vermont National & Savings Bank. Born in Berkshire March 31, 1882, he was one of the 12 children of Joseph and Emily (Jacobs) Gilbar. On Jan. 2, 1903 he was married in Richford to the former Nellie Williams, who survives. The couple moved here from Hancock about 20 years ago. Survivors besides his wife include five sons, Mahlon of Wilmington, Gordon of North Stratford, N.H., Merrill of Fort Myers, Fla., Gerald of Reading, Mass., and Douglas of Plainville, Conn., and two daughters, Mrs. Helen Allen of Springfield, this state, and Mrs. Alfred Poupart of Wilmington. He also leaves four brothers, Martin, Olin and Leonard of Enosburg Falls and Edward of Forestville, Conn.; one sister, Mrs. Lennie Chaffee of St. Albans; 28 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
