DANIEL CHARLES DAWSON, 95, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Englewood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born on Sept. 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Harold and Eulalie (Martin) Dawson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippine Theater at Luzon and received two Bronze Stars. He was a yard manger and lumber salesman for Eagle Lumber for most of his life prior to his retirement in 1986. He has been a resident of Charlotte County for 15 years coming from Coldwater, Mich. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Florida and a member of the V.F.W., American Legion Post and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, all in Paulding County, Ohio. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Maggie J. Dawson of Rotonda West, Fla.; three sons, Craig of Harlan, Ind., Bradford of Calabassa, Calif., Eric of Rome City, Ind.; one daughter, Lori McElroy of Cridersville, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Ellen Henriott of Payne, Ohio and Colleen Barker of Englewood, Fla.; one sister, Mary Alice Kline of New Haven, Ind.; and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A committal service is 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the Sarasota National VA Cemetery with military honors. Englewood Community Funeral Home with Private Crematory has been selected to handle arrangements for Daniel.
