Mary Elizabeth Stryker

Mary Elizabeth Stryker, 75, of Purdy died of natural causes March 7 at Life Care Center of Port Orchard.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., to Stephen M. and Mary E. (Shepardson) Humes, she grew up in Harrisville, N.Y., and graduated from Harrisville High School in 1948. On Sept. 2, 1955, she married Cecil William "Bill" Stryker in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Stryker served in the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1948. Her duty stations included Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her husband Aug. 9, 2000; her son, Mark S. Stryker; her grandson, Andy W. Stryker; and two sisters, Bertha V. Bowers and Doris M. Weeks.

Surviving are a daughter, Debra G. Stryker of Purdy; a brother, Aaron M. Humes of North Syracuse, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, James R. Stryker of Coos Bay, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Alice J. Reardon of St. Stephens, S.C.; two grandchildren, James M. Stryker of Colville and Jason W. Stryker of Purdy; and one great-grandson, Cameron Stryker.

A private service will be held at Mrs. Stryker's home at a later date. Interment is at Twin Firs Cemetery in Belfair under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Noah's Ark Day Care located at First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard.
