Albert "Al" Ray Burpo, 91 of King City passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 with his family by his side. Al was born December 23, 1926 on the family farm near Dover in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.
He met Helen Forbes while dining at a café in Oklahoma. It was love at first sight. But this was during WWII and Al, like many young men entered the US Army. Well the war soon ended and Al was headed home. He sent a letter to Helen and it said, "I'm coming home and we're getting married". Al was honorably discharged at Fort Ord, California. He liked the Monterey County area so much that soon after they were married Al and Helen moved out to California. He worked on Helen's aunt's farm. He then worked as a mechanic for a local garage and Chevrolet dealership. Al knew his brother Gene was a good mechanic so he called him and told him to come out to California, there's a job here for you. Al and his brother Gene and their families have been here ever since. Al worked as a Service Manager at a Chevrolet dealership for 33 years. He loved working on vehicles, and doing yard work. Al loved spending time with his grandchildren, they were his life. Al and Helen were married for 73 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Al is survived by his wife, Helen Mae Burpo; sons, Edward Allen Burpo, and Jerry Ray Burpo; grandchildren, Natalie Burk, Brian Burpo, Bryson Burpo, Donelle Burpo, and Aliece Burpo; great grandchildren, Gayln Burk, Macy Burpo, Makenna Burpo, Kaylee Burpo, Kendyl Burpo, Kendrick Burpo, Cedrick Perez, Devin Morales and Maelyn Morales; brother Gene Burpo; sister, Velma June Fike and numerous nieces and nephews.
