Funeral services were held Monday at the Wilmington Baptist Church for John Martin Travers, 87, of East Randolph, who died Oct. 22 at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph. The Rev. Paul G. Blacketor officiated. Mrs. Walter Nelson was organist. Serving as bearers were John W. Traverse, George A. Cross and Peter Cross of Brattleboro and Alton Cross of Wilmington. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Mr. Traverse was born March 16, 1883, in Cummington, Mass., son of John H. and Ellen (Baldwin) Traverse. A butcher by occupation, he operated his own meat business in Cummington until 1943, when he moved to Chelsea and was a farmer. In 1950 he moved to East Randolph. In 1904 he married Flora Carpenter of Adams, Mass. She died in 1938. Later he married Alma Cross of Worthington, Mass., who died in November 1951. He leaves two sons, Arthur M. of North Hartland and Edgar C. of Williamsburg Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Robinson of Fort Pierce, Fla., and two grandchildren.
