Abijah married Melvina Sophia Smyth(e), 5 April 1886 at Carleton Place, Lanark County, Ontario. The couple had 7 children. By 1891, the family had moved to Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
Abijah worked first as a merchant in Ontario, then as a farmer in Manitoba. Abijah died at the age of 81 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he lived with his daughters, Elizabeth, Violet, and Pearl.
From obituary (provided by Ken): Abijah was a pioneer resident of the Portage district for over 50 years. He was well known, especially to many of the old timers of the district.
