Perry Dean Carpenter, 86, of Cherryville, NC, died Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Hospice at Wendover.

Born in Gaston County, NC, on February 2, 1932; son of the late Perry George Carpenter (1905–1982) and Jesse Alice White Carpenter (1909–1993).

A retired carpenter with Dixie Lumber Co., member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, member American Legion Post 100, member of the Traditional New Year's Shooters, an avid outdoorsman, he belonged to the Peach Bottom Hunt Club, and served his country in the US Army in Korea.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Carpenter Carpenter; son, Jimmy Dean Carpenter (Lisa); granddaughter, Jade Carpenter; brothers, James Albert Carpenter and Jerry Wade Carpenter (1936–2021); sister-in-law, Pansy Carpenter; and nephew Denny Beam.

Also preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Christin Carpenter Beam (1930–2007); and Ronald Dale Carpenter (1938–2002).

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, at Carpenter Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Wayne Key and Rev. Jerry Lail officiating; burial in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from 9:30 - 10:45 am, at the funeral home prior to the service.

Memorials were made to American Legion Post #100, Cherryville, NC.
