Mrs. Vera P. Schmidt, 85, of 711 Maple St., Chilton, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hillside hospital, Beaver Dam, after being ill for several years.
The former Vera Prahl was born Jan. 30, 1895, at Berlin, Daughter of August and Emma Severens Prahl. On May 8, 1917, she and August Schmidt were married at Kiel. The couple operated a butcher shop in Chilton for 37 years, retiring in 1960. He died February 2, 1980.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Chilton, its Ladies Aid Society, the G.U.G. Germania, and was a charter member of Calumet Memorial Hospital and its Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ozzie (Bernice) Ries of Beaver Dam and Mrs. Richard (Audrey) Kantin of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Milton Christel of Kiel, Mrs. Irene Bauman of Milwaukee and Mrs. Ferdinand Achenback of Sheboygan; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral services were held at St. Martin Church, Chilton. The Rev. Robert Novotney, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Chilton.
