John was the son of John Stafford, native of South Carolina who married Mary Murphy in Marion County, South Carolina 08 August 1822.

John C. Stafford married Rachel A. E. Long on 10 December 1846 in Carroll County, Mississippi. They had four known children: James H., Frances Jane, Albert Gayden & Martha.

John C. Stafford died intestate and the date of death is that of the bond for administration of his estate given by brother Neil Stafford as security for William A. Long as administrator.

It is unclear at this time when his wife Rachel died, but she was seen last with the family on the 1860 census in Carroll County. John is thought to be buried here with the Stafford family.
