Karen Kay (DeGreif) Haars, 68, of Guttenberg, formerly of Winthrop, died Saturday, May 2, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

She was born the daughter of Arthur and Vernice (Peck) DeGreif on November 30, 1940 in Independence.

Karen graduated from the Winthrop High School in 1958 and worked as an assembly operator at Rockwell-Collins for 35 years.

On November 18, 1972 she was united in marriage with Allen Haars in Cedar Rapids.

Karen enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, crafts and boating on the Mississippi River. In her later years, Karen picked up various computer skills. Karen loved spending time with her family and looked forward to their visits.

Karen will be forever loved and cherished by her husband Allen Haars; three daughters: Laurie (Kevin) Saylor of Osborne, Kan., Donna (Jim) Fisher of Clancy, Mont and Jill Oliveira of Bridgeport, Conn.; one son, Paul (Terry) Letts of Center Point; one sister, sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Williams of Winthrop, and daughter in law Cindy Haars of Decatur, Neb.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, one son Mitch Haars; one granddaughter, Cassandra Fisher and one sister Donna Christiansen.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. 1st, Guttenberg, IA, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, 2009. Funeral service will be at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, 2009 , Rev. Becky Shaffer officiating.
