Joyce Mildred Whitener Eaton July 28, 1928 - April 9, 2013
The Lord called home one of His angels. Mrs. Joyce Mildred Whitener Eaton, 84, of Jericho Church Road, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. She was born July 28, 1928, in Iredell County, to the late Sidney Oatha Whitener, Sr. and Lillian Brantley Whitener.
Mrs. Eaton retired from Western Electric (AT&T) with 35 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mocksville where she had been active in leading the Senior Adult Group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, one sister; and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Leon Eaton of the home; three sons, Michael Eaton (Lorrie) of Hickory, Steve Eaton and Jeff Eaton (Ann), all of Mocksville; five grandchildren, Christopher Eaton, Eric Eaton (Amber), Carla Bernia (Jeff), Zach Eaton (Jordan) and Alyson Eaton; three great-grandsons; two sisters, Annie Lapish of Troutman and Sarah Hartline (Johnny) of Statesville; one brother, Sidney Whitener, Jr. (Frances) of Grassy Creek; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. A. Shane Nixon and Dr. David Gilbreath officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Eaton Funeral Home. They request that memorials be considered for Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625; or First Baptist Church Building Fund, 412 N. Main St., Mocksville, NC 27028.
