MOCKSVILLE – Mr. Walter Leon Eaton, 90, of Mocksville, died Friday, July 24, 2015, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. He was born June 12, 1925, in Davie County to the late Carl W. and Lillace Bowles Eaton.

Mr. Eaton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He was the vice-president of Eaton Funeral Home, Inc. Following his retirement, he spent much of his time involved with Meals-On-Wheels and other community service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Mildred Whitener Eaton; and his brother, N. Wayne Eaton.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Eaton (Lorrie) Hickory, Steve Eaton (Carol) of Yadkinville and Jeff Eaton (Ann) of Mocksville; five grandchildren, Christopher Eaton (Natassia), Eric Eaton (Amber), Carla Bernia (Jeff), Zach Eaton (Jordan) and Ally Eaton; four great-grandsons, Lachlan Bernia, Cooper Eaton, Jasper Bernia and Walker Eaton; four sister-in-laws, Annie Lapish, Sarah Hartline, Frances Whitener and Mary Louise Whitener; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 26, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. A. Shane Nixon and Dr. David Gilbreath officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, July 25, at the funeral home. They request that memorials be considered for Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625; or First Baptist Church Building Fund, 412 N. Main St., Mocksville, NC 27028.
