Paul E. Parnell, 78, of Rossville, died at 2 a.m. Jan. 12, 1998, at his residence. He had battled cancer for several months and had been seriously ill the past two months.

Born Aug. 10, 1919, in Rankin, Ill., he was the son of Elbert J. and Helen A. Boyland Parnell. His marriage was on Oct. 6, 1940, in Brulington, Ky., to Wilma A. Louks, who survives.

Parnell was an electrical worker with the Electrical Workers Union No. 1353 in Louisville, Ky., retiring in 1981. As an electrician, he worked on the library and Mackey Arena at Purdue University and on the Frito- Lay plant in Frankfort. He drove for the Greyhound Bus Co. for four years.

A World War II Air Force veteran, Parnell was a pilot of B-24s and was stationed at three bases in Texas.

He grew up in Jackson Township, Clinton County, near Antioch, and was a graduate of Jackson Township High School in 1938 and a graduate of Union University in Jackson, Tenn.

He resided 12 years in Inverness, Fla., and the past eight years had resided in Rossville. He was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, Rossville Lions Club, Rossville American Legion, and Frankfort Order of the Elks.

Also surviving are three sons, Jerry L. Parnell of Marcellus, Mich., Dennis R. Parnell of Buck Creek, and Michael E. Parnell of Orange, Calif.; two daughters, Glenda Jo McEwen of Lafayette and Paula L. McKinney of Burnsville, Minn.; two half sisters, Dale Hooker of Spokane, Wash., and Donna Jean Taylor Searcy, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers, a sister and an infant brother preceded him in death.

Services will be at ll a.m. Thursday at Bodine Funeral Home, Rossville, with Dr. FrecKPage and Frank Williams officiating. Burial will be in Scotland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
