Evelyn B. Balis , 90, passed away July 2, 2018 at the Cottonwood Creek Healthcare Facility in Richardson, Texas from congestive heart failure. She had been a longtime resident of Knox City before moving to Richardson, Texas in May of 2014.

She was born Esther Evelyn Bradford on October 22, 1927, in a rural area near Crowell, Texas, the daughter of the late Ben and Esther Bradford, also Knox City residents.

Evelyn served as the County Clerk for Knox County prior to her retirement. She was divorced.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Dana Hopkins of Richardson, Texas; her son Danny Balis of Dallas, Texas; her daughter Shelly Balis Sipley of Syracuse, New York; her grandson Joshua Dylan Balis of Dallas, Texas; and her granddaughter Laney Sipley of Syracuse, New York

She was preceded in death by her 5 siblings, 2 of whom, Kenneth Bradford and Athleen Owens, were also residents of Knox City.

There will be a visitation service hosted by her family at 2:00PM, Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Funeral Home, 210 Avenue A, Knox City. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. According to her wishes, Evelyn's ashes will be buried in the Crowell, Texas cemetery next to her parents. As a result of the long drive to the burial site, and the danger from the excessive heat, there will be no graveside ceremony following the visitation.
