Ralph A. Baldwin, 97, of Erie died at 11 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Elmhaven East nursing home in Parsons.

He was born March 2, 1921, to Harry D. and Zella (Fought) Baldwin in Centerville Township, Neosho County, north of Galesburg. He attended the rural Meeker No. 69 school and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1939.
He enlisted in the Army in April 1942 and served 3 1/2 years. He was a member of the 202 Ordnance Depot Company serving overseas in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He served in five major campaigns and received five Bronze Stars. He was discharged with the rank of technician fourth grade on Nov. 16, 1945.
Returning home, he worked as a DHIA supervisor in Southeast Kansas for approximately two years.
Ralph was married to Irene Anderson on July 30, 1948, in the First Christian Church parsonage in Erie by the Rev. John Henry Cain. He and Irene farmed and developed an Angus cow herd on their farm north of Galesburg. They resided there until 1993, when they retired and moved to Erie.
Ralph loved to hunt and fish and made several trips to Colorado to hunt and to Lake Texoma to fish. One of the highlights of going to Lake Texoma was in 1988 when all the family was there to fish at the same time. He and Irene enjoyed traveling to Canada, Mexico and various points of interest across the United States.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Erie and served as an elder and deacon. He was a member of the Erie Kiwanis. He served 25 years on the board of directors of the Rural Electric Cooperative at Iola and nine years on the Neosho Farmers Cooperative board in Erie.
