ST. PAUL - Ruby Baldwin Wilcox, 88, died at 2:32 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at Labette County Medical Center, Parsons. She had been a resident of the Prairie Mission Retirement Village, St. Paul, since 2003.
She was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Galesburg to Harry D. and Zella (Fought) Baldwin. She grew up and attended schools in Galesburg, and was a winner of the Kansas State Spelling Bee. After graduating from Galesburg High School, she graduated from the Chillicothe Business College in 1939. She later received a bachelor of science in accounting from Southeastern University and a master's degree in fiscal administration from Columbia University, Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Wilcox lived for many years in Arlington, Va., and worked as an accountant with the Rural Electrification Administration in Washington, D.C. After retiring from the REA, she worked at Luther Rice College.
She and Thomas Wilcox were married Sept. 13, 1975, in Fort Union, Va. For a time they lived in John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, Fla. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1994.
Survivors include one stepson, Roy Wilcox; two brothers, Riley Baldwin of Galesburg and Ralph Baldwin of Erie; four sisters, Ruth Arseneault of Machiasport, Maine, Ada Lee Landreau of Ventura, Calif., Alma Oberly of Tempe, Ariz., and Anna Schoenhofer of St. Paul. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Arthur Wilcox, two brothers, Roy Baldwin and Harvey Baldwin, and a sister, Opal St. Clair, who died on Feb. 22, 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, April 25, 2006, at the First Christian Church, Erie. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Galesburg. Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, Parsons, will be in charge of arrangements.
