John L. Bender, 96, of Ephrata entered into rest on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. His wife, Betty Ruth Bender, died in 1999. Born in Providence, PA on December 10, 1921, a son of the late Jacob and Aida (White) Bender.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
He worked at Armstrong Flooring for 32 years and retired from Yellow Freight after 10 years of employment.
He is survived by a son, John L. Bender, Jr. widower of Carol Bender; two daughters, Pamela K. wife of Dennis Reis, and Beth Anne Lopez and her companion, Donald Deibler; four brothers, Jim, Ralph, Lloyd, and Roy Bender; a sister, Rhoda Gerlach; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John's Funeral Service at The Groff's Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 528 West Orange Street (corner of W. Orange & Pine Sts.) Lancaster on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Helen Adams officiating. The family will receive friends at The Groff's on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Interment with military honors will follow at Riverview Burial Park.
