Ruby Zipf, 94, of Fullerton, Nebraska, formerly of Columbus, departed this life on June 27, 2018, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be Monday, July 2, 10:00 A.M. at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton with Rev. Allen Pingel officiating. Interment will be in the Fullerton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be direct to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church of Alzheimer's Association.

Ruby was born March 20, 1924, to Fred E. and Mary C. (Hawthorne) Meyer in rural Platte County, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed on March 31, 1946, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton. She attended school in Fullerton and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1941. She taught school in rural Nance County for two years.

On May 20, 1944, Ruby was united in marriage to Merlin R. Zipf at Bennettsville, South Carolina. They lived in North Carolina where Merlin was stationed in the U.S. Army during WW !!. After his discharge from the service, they made their home in Fullerton until 1957, when they then moved to Columbus.

Ruby was an active member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, teaching Bible School, Sunday School for ten years, and served as an officer in Ladies Aid. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #151 where she served as secretary for two years. After moving to Columbus in 1957, they transferred their church membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Columbus, where she became a member of the Evening Guild and also taught Sunday School.

Ruby was employed at the Lutheran Hospital, which was later renamed Behlen Memorial Hospital, from 1959 to 1982 when she retired. She and Merlin wintered in Arizona for 23 years.

Ruby enjoyed a variety activities. One of her greatest pleasures was to paint on porcelain and to share a vase, dish, or box whenever a family member had a special celebration. Another pleasure was her flowering gardening, which brought joy to neighbors and visitors. Additional hobbies were knitting, crocheting, making quilts, reading, golfing, and traveling.

Ruby was a loving and kind parent, grandparent, and family member. She will be genuinely missed by those her loved her.
