Mrs. Freda Lorene (Adams) Thornton of Weiner departed this life on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the age of 78. She was born August 22, 1939 in Grubbs, the daughter of Charlie and Mary (Hallmark) Adams.

Mrs. Thornton had worked as a home health aide for NEA Area Agency on Aging, retiring at the age of 77. She had many hobbies including traveling, metal detecting and canning vegetables from her garden. Her greatest joy was cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas Leon Thornton; one son, Donald Thornton; eleven brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by one son, David Thornton of Grubbs; one daughter, Sherry Glasgow and husband, Donnie, of Tuckerman; seven grandchildren, Jason Hartsell, Rachel Ethridge, Cristel McPherson, Doug Thornton, Amy Thornton, Autumn Glasgow, and Justin Glasgow; twelve great grandchildren; six brothers, Jim Adams of Oil City, LA, Terry Adams and wife, Vanna, of Oil City, LA, Lloyd Adams of Grubbs, Edward Adams of Grubbs, Lawrence Adams of Beedeville, and Benny Adams of Grubbs; two sisters, Mary Uvel Williford and husband, Dan, of Grubbs, and Wilma Tubbs of Grubbs; many very close sister in laws and brother in laws; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Balch-Johnson Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Leslie Hartsell, Steven Finney, Allen Spradling, Colton Thornton, Brent Thornton, Trey Thornton, Austin Finney, and Anthony Poe. Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Finney, Chris Spradling, and Mark Ethridge.
