Nannie Mae Elkins was born 11 May 1891 in Alabama to William Elkins and Chasie Elizabeth Lusk Elkins. She first married Claude C. Berryhill in 1910 of Madison County, Alabama, and they had one son, Ozro aka Ozzie C. Berryhill. At some point, the marriage failed, and Nannie is shown on the 1920 and 1930 censuses living in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama, working in the mills, and boarding with other workers. In 1930, her son, Ozro Berryhill, is living in Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas with his uncle and aunt, Earl E Hethcoat and Willie Belle Elkins Hethcoat.

Sometime in the 1930s, Nannie Elkins moved to Little Rock, and she met Roy Kuns, originally from Macon County, Illinois, and they were married 18 Jul 1936 in Pulaski County, Arkansas. Roy died in 1954 and Nannie Kuns died 4 Aug 1977.
