She was born Oct. 16, 1941, in Greybull, the 13th child of Martin and Ella Werbelow. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church. Mary Ann grew up in Emblem and received her elementary education at Emblem and attended Greybull High School.
She married Leslie Shepard Oct. 17, 1959. Most of their married life was spent in San Jose, Calif., before they moved to Spokane in 2008.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers – Bud, Joe, George, Frank and Dick; four sisters, Irma Olbricht, Gladys Behneman, Doris Schmidt and Evelyn Ellison.
She is survived by her son, Clifford of Spokane; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brent and Carrie Shepard Olthoff, Marc and Laura Shepard LaBas and Michelle Shepard, all of San Jose; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clarence and Barb Werbelow and Pete Werbelow, all of Powell; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Guy and Becky Werbelow Henderson of Greybull and Jean Werbelow of San Jose; four sisters-in-law, Elsie Werbelow of Sheridan, Joyce Werbelow of Emblem, Jackie Werbelow of San Jose and Pat Shepard of Greybull; brother-in-law, Randy Shepard of Cody; two grandsons and two granddaughters and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
