MARY ELIZABETH BELL STOUT -
Mary Elizabeth Bell Stout, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bell was born August 10, 1851 in the wild forest from which this pioneer family had undertaken to hew out their future home. She was the second child in a family of eight. On November 20, 1873, she was united in marriage with Joseph W. Stout. To this union were born seven children, all whom survive except one son, Willard, who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of his country on the battlefield in France during World War I. It is after this son that the Willard Stout American Legion Post in Belle Center was named.

Left to mourn the loss of this noble Gold Star mother are four daughters: Amy Luetitia (Mrs. David S. Tough), of near Belle Center, Annie Belle (Mrs. Roy Liles), of Kenton, Elsie Elizabeth (Mrs. Thomas P. Corwin), of Columbus, and Mary Agnes (Mrs. George Dillon), and two sons, Dennie E. and Floyd I. Stout, all of near Belle Center; 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters: Della (Mrs. Elmer Overly). of Kenton, and Anna (Mrs. Marion Zahler), of near Belle Center and a legion of relatives and friends. Two sisters died in infancy and three brothers, Isaac, Casper, and Oliver are also deceased.

She departed from this world on February 15, 1939, age 87 years, 6 months and 5 days. Her body was laid to rest February 17, 1939 by the side of her beloved companion who preceded her in death June 17, 1917. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Her funeral was conducted by the Postle's Funeral Home, the Minister J. R. Lloyd officiating. She is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center, Logan Co., Ohio.
