SANDY, UT -- Nettie Pierce Smith, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, passed away April 12, 2007, at home in Sandy, Utah, of natural causes related to age; she was 96. Nettie was greatly loved by her family and friends. She was a kind and gentle lady and will be greatly missed.

Nettie was born in St. John, Idaho, May 24, 1910, the second child of William and Sarah (Jones) Pierce. She had an older sister, Marianne (Williams) and a younger brother, Sherman. She attended grade school in St. John and high school in Malad, graduating in 1929. She earned her B. S. in Elementary Education from Utah State.

She married her sweetheart, Franklin Edward Smith, June 29, 1937. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple July 18, 1957. They had three children, Douglas Pierce Smith, Phyllis Smith, and Bruce Lee Smith. Frank's work took them to many different cities. They lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Mexico, Utah and Idaho. Nettie was a wonderful school teacher. She taught in St. John for four years, Preston, Idaho, for two years, and for 15 years in Idaho Falls.

Nettie enjoyed her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She enjoyed cooking, playing games, reading stories or teaching fun activities to her grandchildren. She also had a beautiful rose garden and a lovely vegetable garden that she loved sharing with neighbors and friends. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in Sunday School, Mutual, Primary and Relief Society. She was a worker in the Idaho Falls Temple for 15 years.

Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, son, Douglas Pierce Smith (Carol), baby daughter, Phyllis, sister, Marianne, and brother, Sherman. She is survived by her husband, Franklin Smith; son, Bruce (Jan) Smith of Murray, UT; daughter-in-law, Carol Smith of Murray, UT; 10 Grandchildren: Jeff (Melissa) Smith of Provo, UT; Liz (Mike) Mower of Murray, UT; David Smith of Murray, UT; Jennifer (Jeff) Crane of Lehi, UT; Lori (Nate) Walnum of Glendale, AZ; Sarah (Jason) Dunn of Taylorsville, UT; Robert (Karin) Smith of Des Moines, IA, Greg Smith of Scottsdale, AZ; Richard Smith of Murray, UT; and Allison Smith of Murray, UT. She is survived by 12 Great Grandchildren.

In Utah, the family will visit with friends Wednesday, April 18, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDS 16th Ward, 885 South Boulevard, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, Idaho Falls, and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery at Malad, Idaho, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
