Alfred Potter was born on 10 March 1849, his father, James, was 22 and his mother, Mary, was 21. He married Janet Walker and they had four children together. He then married Mary Collins on 26 June 1902 in Sydney, New South Wales. He died on 17 April 1927at Glebe New South Wales at the age of 78, and was buried in Zone B Anglican Section CCC Grave 245 Rookwood New South Wales.

Sworn in as a Probationary Constable 11 August 1873, Constable 1 February 1874, Constable 1/c 1 September 1875, Senior Constable 1 December 1875, Sergeant 2/c 1 May 1878 and Sergeant 1/c 1 July 1881. Pro Const to Sgt 1/c in under 8 years. Superintendent 3/c 1 September 1901. Discharged on a pension on the 11 March 1909. Died 17 April 1927.Aged 78
