George A. Cobb was born in Pennsylvania on May 31, 1846, and died August 19, 1914. He was a Civil War Veteran. He was buried in Ida Grove (Iowa) Cemetery, Ida County, Ia.

He moved with his parents when a year old to Van Wert where they lived until he was 14 years old. They moved to Rock Island County, Illinois, where he was engaged in mercantile business with his older brother. Then he enlisted in the Civil War.

He was 17 years old when he enlisted in the Union Army as a private & served for the North from May 3, 1864 to Oct. 29, 1864, 140th Illinois Infantry, Co. G, "100 days of Volunteer Service."

Mr. Cobb married Ella Thompson (born 1854), Sept. 19, 1872. He came to Ida County in 1881-1882 from Andalusia, Illinois, with their 3 children, Estella, Henry, and Blanche. He built a large, new silo on his property.

The funeral was held on the lawn of his late home with Rev. Todd of the Methodist Church officiating.

George established a dairy at the northwest edge of Ida Grove, and raised a family of 5 children, Estella Deane living in Lacomb, Alberta, Canada; Dr. H. A. Cobb of Dunlap, Iowa; Blanche Phares of Ida County; Ray and Georgia. He had one brother and sister: John Cobb of West Bend, Iowa; and Mrs. Lavisa Coon of Kempton, Ohio.

For several years, he was in business at the NE corner of Taylor and 2nd street.
