Two years after his marriage to Frances Ellen Van Hooser died. They were married 4 Jul 1862, Florence, Omaha, Nebraska.
Son - John Clarence Stewart
John then married Eliza Stevenson on 16 Dec 1865 and had ten children.
Children - Eliza Melinda Stewart, Nancy Ellen Stewart, Clara Annette Stewart, Willard Levi Stewart, Lyman Eugene Stewart, Ezra Albert Stewart, Joseph Franklin Stewart, Clarice Stewart, Charles Herbert Stewart, Areta Stewart
In 1883, John and Frances Ellen's son, John Clarence Stewart, went on a mission to New Zealand. When he returned home he brought home with him a little Maori boy. His name was Piriki Whaanga. He had been given to John as an expression of the Maoir's love towards John. Perry was about eight years old. He lived with John Riley and Eliza and was loved as if he were their own. He lived only to his twenty-sixth year when he was fatally injured while riding a horse.
Eliza died at the home of her son, Eugene of acute pneumonia. Because of the extremely severe winter it was impractical to take the remains of Eliza Stevenson Stewart to Odgen for burial beside her husband, Clarence. So she was buried in the Montpelier City Cemetery near a beautiful evergreen tree. She had come to this very location many times to visit the grave of a dear friend, and she loved this particular setting. The family placed a stone marking her last resting place.
