My great grandpa...
My mom always told me he was quite the man. Anton never remarried after Sophia passed away 44 years before he did. He raised all ten of his children on his own including the newborn baby, Ruth, who was only a week old when Sophia died.

Anton Kennebeck, who on February 28th, observed his 94th birthday died at St. Elizabeth's hospital at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 6th. He entered the hospital here Sunday, following a stroke he had suffered a week previous on March 28th, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Frank Russell of Lake City, with whom he was spending a few weeks. Up until that time he had been in apparent good health, and last February enjoyed the birthday celebration held in his honor at White Bear, at which time he visited with all his family.

Mr. Kennebeck was born near Waumandee, Wis. on February 28, 1860.

At St. Felix Church on October 28, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Sophie Lager, the ceremony being performed by Father Trobec. Eleven children were born to this union, nine of whom survive. Following their marriage the couple located on a farm on Wabasha Hill, where he resided continuously until 1939, when he went to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ervin T. Smith (Ruth) at White Bear, disposing of his farming interests here to John Bruegger, Jr.

Mrs. Kennebeck died in the year 1910, Mr. Kennebeck being left with his family of ten small children.

Surviving are nine children as follows: Mrs. John A Schmitz (Isabelle) of Wabasha; Mrs. Elmer Berlin (Lizetta) of Red Wing; Mrs. Frank Russell (Agnes) of Lake City; Mrs. Oscar Averbeck (Clara) of Alma; Frank Kennebeck of Klamath Falls, Ore; Mrs. Melvin Johnson (Josepha) of Carlton; Mrs. Nick Jacoby (Marcella) of Wabasha; Mrs. Rae Bright (Bernice) and Mrs. Irvin T. Smith (Ruth) of White Bear. A daughter Albertina died in 1893 and a son Edward died in 1937. He Also leaves 43 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren and a brother Theodore Kennebeck of Wabasha; a half brother, George Kennebeck of California; and three half sisters, Mrs. John Bruegger, Sr. and Miss Elizabeth Kennebeck of Wabasha and Mrs. Caroline Rotering of Cochrane, Wis.

Funeral services are being held this Thursday morning at St. Felix Church at nine o'clock with Requiem High Mass by Monsignor John N. Bartholome. Pallbearers are August Passe, Innce Suilman, Joe Budde, Ben Burrichter, Tony Gosse and Joe Passe. Burial will be in St. Felix cemetery.

The body was at the Wise Funeral Home until the time of the service.
