Fred Barnhardt was born in Germany on March 13, 1878 and came to this country with his parents when he was a small child. He lived with his parents at Pocahontas, Iowa, until his marriage to Emma Hermann at Verndale, Minnesota on April 10, 1911.

The couple engaged in farming at Pocahontas, moving into Wilmot, South Dakota in March 1925 and still later, moving to a farm near Big Stone City in Roberts County, where he remained until taken ill.

Mr. Barnhardt passed away last Monday morning at the Yankton State Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past two and one-half years.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Emma, who passed away April 26, 1925, and also one brother and four sisters.

He is survived by 6 children, Vyle, Leo, Walter, Woodrow, Mrs. Philip Gagnon (Lena) and Mrs. Richard O'Brien (Helen).

Also surviving are one brother, John, of Pocahontas, three sisters, Mrs. Perry Troupe, of Wilmot, Mary Christensen, of Rolfe, Iowa, and Mrs. Bill Nieman, of Pocahontas, 19 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Services were held at the Schoen chapel in this city. Pallbearers were Frank Stutler, Paul Trapp, Clayton Hay, Denver Smith, William Sprung and Frank Fredrichsen.
