Anthony J. Amestoy, Who Died Monday, Knew City in Its Pueblo Days
Funeral services for Anthony J. Amestoy, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Los Angeles, whose death occurred last Monday, will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Thomas's Church in Pico Heights. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Amestoy was born July 20, 1887, on the old Dos Feliz Rancho, now the center of the world's greatest motion-picture Industry, in Hollywood. He was the son of Domingo Amestoy, who came to California from France In 1849 and who made a part of his fortune during the gold rush of the early days. Although he retired from active business several years ago, Mr. Amestoy was for many years one of the most influential ranchers and business men in the Southland. He saw Los Angeles grow from a pueblo to its present position of one of the greatest cities of the world. Besides his widow, Teresa Amestoy, and his son, Louis Amestoy, Mr. Amestoy leaves four brothers and three sisters. The brothers are Messrs. John R., Peter D., Michel F. and Joseph Amestoy, and the sisters are Mrs. Juanita A. Gless, Mrs. Louis Sentous and Mrs. C. W. Wells, all of Southern California.
