Peter Amestoy Dies at 73
Another Southland figure familiar to a past generation is gone with the death last week of Peter Domingo Amestoy, 73, of the family which until about 25 years ago owned the 4500-acre Encino Rancho in the San Fernando Valley. Mr. Amestoy was the son of Domingo Amestoy, who came to Los Angeles in 1846 from France and at one time owned several large ranches and many thousands of sheep. Peter Domingo Amestoy was born on what is now the site of the Immaculate Heart Convent Convent at Franklin and Western Aves. in Hollywood. He died last Monday after a lengthy illness. Funeral services Thursday at St. Brendan's Catholic Church were followed by entombment in Calvary Mausoleum. The family home is at 233 S Larchmont Blvd. Mr. Amestoy leaves his widow, Mary Larre Amestoy, a daughter, Mrs. Genevieve Royere; two sons, Simon and Edward; two brothers, Michael and Joseph; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wells, and four grandchildren.
