Television Producer, Television Writer. He was best known as the creative force behind such hit television shows as "Hill Street Blues", "L.A. Law", "Doogie Howser, M.D." and "NYPD Blue". Born Steven Ronald Bochco in New York City to a Jewish family, he started writing for television after graduating from Carnegie Tech (later Carnegie Mellon University) with a B.F.A. in 1966. He worked as a scriptwriter, story editor and producer for both Universal Studios (1966–78) and Mary Tyler Moore's MTM Enterprises (1978–85) before forming his own production company, Steven Bochco Productions in 1987 and partnering with 20th Century Fox Television (20th Television). He gave writer-producer David E. Kelley his start in TV, starting in 1986 by having him write-executive produce "L.A. Law" and co-created "Doogie Howser" with Bochco. His later projects included the legal dramas "Murder One", "Philly", "Raising the Bar" and "Murder in the First". He also was the author of the novel "Death by Hollywood" in 2013 and his memoir "Truth Is a Total Defense: My Fifty Years in Television" in 2016. He passed away after a lengthy battle with leukemia.
