Obituary in The Shreveport (LA) Times March 18, 2018:

Shreveport, LA - Martha Anne Sparke was born on November 1, 1922 in Shreveport, Louisiana into one of Shreveport's pioneer families and passed away peacefully on March 8, 2018 at the age of 95. A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Chapel of the Live Oak Retirement Community.

Martha had a passion for the finer things in life, such as art and music. She worked diligently for the Meadows Museum of Art as a docent and supported the Shreveport Symphony as a member of the Guild for many years. An avid animal lover, Martha had a special affinity for dogs. She adopted and cared for many furry friends during her lifetime including Charlie, Belle Star, Billie Jay, Skipper and Susie.

Martha was a lifelong learner. She graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1940 and continued her education by taking classes at both Centenary College and LSUS, even after her retirement.

After working with the American Red Cross at Barksdale during World War II, Martha moved to Studio City, California where she began her career in the Motion Picture Industry. In California, Martha worked for Republic Pictures, Consolidated Film Industries, and Universal Studios, retiring from Universal in 1976. Upon her return to Shreveport, Martha worked as the Secretary for the family business, the "H. A. Sparke Company" for many years.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Aleck and Exa Warrick Sparke. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Richard Warrick Sparke; Richard's wife, Martha's beloved sister-in-law, Lona Renner Sparke; her niece, Anna Maria and husband, Meade Patton; Martha's great-niece, Melina; Melina's father, Dan Keele; and, Lona's sister, Ludy Parker.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful people at Live Oak for their care and concern for Martha over the years.
