Early Life: Thressa was born March 18, 1920, in Meadow, Utah, to Joseph Clifton and Laura Swallow Beckstrand, who loved her and taught her to love others.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: On September 27, 1945, she married Carl Walter Knoell in Salt Lake City, Utah; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A loyal and loving wife and mother, she is happy to be reunited with her beloved Carl.
She attended Millard High School in Fillmore, Utah; Dixie Junior College in St. George, Utah; and LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. She had varied interests. She loved music and had a gorgeous high soprano voice and sang for many years with Florence Jepperson Madsen’s Singing Mothers. She also sang at weddings, funerals and other functions. She sang daily with and to her children. She earned her pilot’s license and joined the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. Reading was a passion. She worked at the Orem City Library for many years and was a school librarian, mainly at Windsor Elementary, helping many children learn to love books and reading. She served faithfully in many ward and stake callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which included being a visiting teacher for most of her life. Her favorite jobs were Primary and Relief Society chorister. She loved the Lord and the gospel. She enjoyed working in vegetable and flower gardens as well as canning the fruits and vegetables she helped grow. She loved sports, especially BYU, and for many years took her mother to baseball, football, basketball and volleyball games. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed going to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks along with locations in Utah, like Antelope Island, to enjoy scenery and watch for wild animals.
