Ray was born May 8, 1936, to Eldridge Lester and Teresa Simon, and raised in the city of St. Joseph.
He attended Lafayette high School and played basketball and baseball.
After graduating from high school, he worked eight years in the Fire Department and eight years in the Air National Guard.Ray married Shirley O'Bannon from Stanberry, Missouri on March 12, 1955. To that union three children were born, Stephen Ray Simon, Cynthia Sue Simon and Clifford Warren Simon.
In 1961 Ray moved his family to the state of Washington where he worked for 32 years. After retiring he moved back to St. Joseph.
Ray is preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving family includes: his wife, three children; four grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Dawn Hodge, Chloe Schultz and Skylar Schultz; seven great-grandchildren; two nephews, Danny (Nancy) Smith and Jerry (Sherri) Simon; and two nieces, Vicki (Richard) Davis and Kim Hawkins.
A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
