Malcolm L. Dowell, age 83, of Vandalia, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at his home in Vandalia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2006 at Waters Funeral Chapel, Vandalia. Officiating will be the Rev. Marvin Jones. Music will be provided by Kevin Morris, Soloist, and Rose Thomas, Accompanist. Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers are Ron Rourke, Billy Joe Wyatt, Larry Dowell, J.C. Dowell, Fred Schambach and Michael Lovell.
Mr. Dowell had worked for over 39 years as a forklift operator for CE Refractories in Farber, retiring in 1984. He lived his adult life in Vandalia and was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He enjoyed woodcrafts, fishing and hunting. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Dowell was born Sept. 24, 1922 in Center to Jettie C. and Nona M. (Hendricks) Dowell.
He married Wilma N. Reddick in Center on Aug. 28, 1941; she preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda J. and husband, Tom Lovell, of Curryville and Beverly A. and husband, Roy Swain of Vandalia; three grandchildren, Miss McCoskey of Laddonia, Tony and Roma Lovell of Curryville, Sarah and Kenny Boyce of Columbia; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul and Elbern and Loyd Dowell.
