Curtis Claude Hart, 90, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.

Curtis was born November 1, 1927 in Dublin, Georgia to Callie C Hart and Eloise Bell Porter. He joined the Army during WWII in 1945 to 1947. One month later in 1947, Curtis joined the United States Air Force. Early in his Air Force career, Curtis met Ila Mae, a young country farm girl from Henagar, Alabama. As the story goes (told by Curtis, of course), Curtis and his friend were out in the woods rabbit hunting when he chased her out from behind a tree. With her parents' blessing, they married just a short time later on May 8, 1952, when she was 16 years old.

Curtis was a wonderful, loving family man that absolutely loved life. He was a devote Christian that always believed in doing the right thing and helping others in need. His most cherished time was with his family. Whether traveling across the country or just down the road to the park, climbing Mount Fuji or horse playing in the living room, there was always an adventure to be had. He was fun and playful and never shied away from a practical joke or quick-witted comeback.

During his time in service, Curtis was very active in base activities. He boxed, played fastpitch softball, coached base teams and volunteered for the Honor Guard just to name a few. Curtis' primary duty in the Air Force was First Sergeant. As "first shirt" he was proudly responsible for the morale, welfare, and conduct of all his squadron's enlisted members and was the chief adviser to the squadron commander concerning the enlisted force. Curtis retired in December 1973, as Master Sergeant.

After retirement, Curtis was very active in the Church of Christ. He served as a Deacon and was an active member of the Happy Hearts.

Curtis will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Ila Mae Laney Hart, and their children Glen (Margie), Charles (Brenda) and Pamela Wood. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Cathy Smith, Brian Hart, Charles Hart, Keith (Tracy) Wood and Amanda (Dustin) Thompson, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his best friends of 43 years, Donald and Peggy Pennington, and his Vaughn Park Church of Christ family.

A Celebration of Life will be held February 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM, at Vaughn Park Church of Christ, 3800 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36106. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
