WALWORTH COUNTY
PIONEER PASSES ON
Word was received here today of the death of Alonzo S. Wortman, age 90, for 44 years a farmer and resident of Spring Prairie. Mr. Wortman passed away Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Irma Valley, at Delavan, where he had been making his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1841, in Barrington, N.Y., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Halsey Wortman. As a child he came to Barrington, Ill., with his parents, and lived there until 1880, when he moved to Spring Prairie.
Mr. Wortman was married Oct. 18, 1875 to Miss Charlotte Loomis of Wheatland. They resided on their farm near Spring Prairie until Mrs. Wortman's death in 1924. Mr. Wortman then went to Delavan to make his home.
Surviving the death of Mr. Wortman are two daughters, Mrs. Irma Valley, Delavan; Mrs. Wm. Crane, Wellington, Colo. Two sons, Ben W. Wortman, Delavan, and Charles L. Wortman, Lyons, as well as 23 grandchildren, also survive him. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. M. Lessenden, of Osawatomie, Kan.
Funeral services will be held from the Lackey, Liddle & O'Brien funeral home at Delavan on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Mr. Estes, pastor of the Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in the Burlington cemetery.
