Mrs. Effie Dallas Morse, 73, of 512 Edgewood Place, died at home.


Mrs. Morse attended school in Ithaca. She studied music and French at the Convent Notre Dame in Philadelphia. Next she studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She then studied at the Musikconservatorium in Leipsig, Germany which was under the direction of Bartholdy Mendelssohn. She continued further studies in Geneva, Switzerland and Paris after which she taught French and music at the Kansas City Ladies' College, Independence, Kansas.


She married her husband in Iowa, 1887. Mr. Morse was residing then in Orange City, Iowa. Their children Robert and Dorothea were born there.


Mrs. Morse was deeply interested in children's welfare and social work and was involved in these activities in Ithaca by organizing the Visiting Nurse Assn., the Ithaca Tuberculosis Assn., an Open Air School and a public dental clinic. She was the first woman to be appointed commissioner of charities for four years by Mayor of Ithaca, E.C. Stewart.


She is survived by her husband, Virgil D. Morse; a daughter, Dorothea Morse Coors; a son, Robert V. Morse; three grandchildren, Dallas M. Coors, Robert M. Coors, and Epsie Virginia Morse.


Funeral services will be held at the home. The Rev. Leslie T. Pennington of the Unitarian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
