Influenza Attack and Heart Trouble Results in Death
Mrs. Clara Belle Alpers of Sweetland Nativity Died at Home.
Suffering from intestinal influenza since last Thursday, which became complicated with heart attacks Wednesday night, Mrs. Clara Belle Alpers, 352 East Main street, died shortly after 9:30 o’clock yesterday morning to the surprise and shock of members of her family and her wide circle of friends.
It was believed that Mrs. Alpers was improving steadily until tests the evening before her death disclosed the weakened heart condition.
Mrs. Alpers was a member of the pioneer James Reader family of Sweetland, being born in that ridge community 64 years ago. The greater part of her life was spent at Sweetland, where the children were born and raised, until 19 years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Alpers moved to Grass Valley. They had been residents of East Main street for over two years.
Mrs. Alpers was considered one of the kindest and most loyal women among her friends and acquaintances. In her short stay on East Main street she was friendly to all, particularly the passing children.
Surviving her are a husband, Charles Alpers; a son, Carl Alpers; five daughters, Mrs. Harry Krelle of Santa Maria, Mrs. B F. Payne of Yuba City, Mrs. Thomas Jeffrey of Grass Valley, Mrs. Robert Young of Roseville and Mrs. Marvin Norman of Stockton; one brother, James Reader, of Sweetland and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Dudley of Hammonton and Miss Hattie Reader of Grass Valley. A number of nieces and grandchildren also survive.
Out of town relatives have been notified of the passing of Mrs. Alpers and started arriving here last evening. Funeral arrangements will be made today. The body lies in the chapel of W. R. Jefford and Son mortuary parlors.
