T. J. Oden, 96, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Bronte Health & Rehab.
Services will be 2 P.M. Friday, January 5, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Rhea Bullock officiating directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors performed by the United States Army Honor Guard. There will be a family visitation from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. Friday at the Blackwell Methodist Church.
T. J. was born to Jasper A. and Mary Ovalle (Vaught) Oden October 26, 1921 in Blackwell, TX. He married Winnie Bell Rose September 2, 1943 in Sherman, Texas. She preceded him in death October 9, 2010 after sixty-seven years of marriage. T. J. graduated from Blackwell High School. He was a lifelong resident of Blackwell and a member of the Blackwell United Methodist Church. He was an Army Veteran of W.W. II serving in the South Pacific (1942-1946). He was a life long farmer and rancher and also worked at Lone Star Cement and retired after thirty years of service.
He is survived by three sons; Terry J. Oden & wife Marilyn, Larry J. Oden both of Blackwell, Texas, and Joe Dan Oden of Albany, Texas, two daughters; Lana Kay Goodman and Kathy Jackson both of Blackwell, Texas, a sister Rena Mae Beam of Bronte, TX, a sister in law Elva Goracke of Bells, Texas, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, two half-brothers, six sisters, grandson and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Chad Goodman, Ron Carlton, Wellman Bauer, Larry Cis, James Oden and Robert Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be remaining grandsons and nephews.
