Joe Strickland Called By Death-Resident of Community for 46 Years Dies at Fred Smith Home. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Cumberland at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, for Joseph Strickland, 79, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Smith in Cumberland, Friday morning. Mr. Strickland had been in ill health since last spring but had not been seriously ill until this fall. He and his wife started on a trip to the west in the latter part of October, but got only as far as Minneapolis when he became too ill to go on, and his daughter, Mrs. Will Johnson and husband, who live in Minneapolis, brought him back to Cumberland, where he was taken to the hospital and received treatment for a week. He was then taken to the Smith home where he spent his last days. Joseph William Strickland was born at Kendall Town, LaFayette county on October 14, 1868. He grew to manhood here and was united in marriage to Margaret Juliann Lillich, also of Kendall Town on Feb. 23, 1893. To this union seven children were born: Jessie, Mrs. Will Johnson of Minneapolis; Rose, Mrs. Thomas Early; Glenn; Fern, Mrs. Fred Smith; and Dale, all of Cumberland; Lynn of Barronett and Godfrey of Ardinvoir, Washington. Pallbearers were the four sons, Glenn, Dale, Lynn and Godfrey and two sons-in-law, Thomas Early and Fred Smith. Besides his sorrowing wife and children, Mr. Strickland leaves to mourn his death, 25 grandchildren, ten great grand children and a host of relatives and friends. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Mary Blair of St. Helen's, Ore.; Mrs. Will Johnson, Sylvia Johnson and Mrs. Ed Zimdars of Minneapolis, Darrel Johnson of Rochester, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Johnson and daughter of Deer River, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Linder and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Early of Rice Lake, Godfrey Strickland of Ardinvoir, Wash.
